The Birth of Baby 4-1-1, Inc.
Hello and thanks for looking at my webpage! This section is all about how I came about starting my business. It all started when my husband’s best friend’s wife became pregnant. A friend of hers threw her a shower and I offered to help. One of my responsibilities was coming up with a game. Great! The part of the shower that most people cringe at and it is my responsibility! We play the same games shower after shower and we are all bored with them. So we obviously needed something new to play. Thus my research began!
I logged onto the computer, went to the fabulous world called the “Internet” and typed the popular words “baby shower games.” There were lots of choices but I wanted a game that would teach my friend something about taking care of a newborn. Then I got a GREAT idea for a game for the shower.
Through the years I have picked up and remembered things about labor, deliver and newborn care that others seem to overlook or forget. Friends were always calling me about basic care for a newborn and what to expect while they were pregnant. This was my friends first child and she had lots of questions like most first time moms. I decided to create a game that would educate her on taking care of a newborn and maybe answer some of her unasked questions too. Thus I started writing out questions and their answers.
After several nights of staying up late thinking of questions and categories and researching on the internet to make sure my answers were correct, the day finally came to get to play my new invention. The game was a hit! EVERYONE (around 20 guests) loved it and several people suggested that I try and sell it. I just laughed and said I didn’t have time to do that.
After the shower for several weeks my best friend kept bringing the topic up and coaxing me to at least look into it. Then one day she sent me a link to a webpage that told me how to go about taking an invention and doing something with it. I did what it said and the next thing I knew I was looking for a manufacturer. I got the contract to start the design and production process on my birthday and then exactly one year later I got my first shipment, yes…on my birthday! It was the best birthday present ever. At this point it had been two years from when I had invented the game for the shower. Baby 4-1-1 was FINALLY ready to sell!!!
So….buy a game and find out just how much fun you can have at your shower. Plus you will be educating and entertaining the guest of honor and all the guests at the shower. There you have it! ...fun, education and entertainment all in one game. Even if some of your guests are men. They will have fun too and seem to get really excited when they ACTUALLY know an answer…thus resulting in lots of “high fives”!
OR...buy a game as a gift for an expecting couple to play against each other at home. Let them learn about labor, delivery and caring for a newborn in a fun competitive way.
Look for it at your local hospital’s labor classes too. I have sold three games to one of our local hospitals to play at their labor classes and hope others will soon follow.
